More than a house: a bespoke Irish golf trip, planned for you

You're flying your family across the Atlantic for the Ryder Cup's 100th anniversary. The golf is sorted. The rest — where you stay, how you get to Adare each day, what the kids do while you're on the course, which links you play before and after — shouldn't be left to a spreadsheet. That's where we come in.

SOS Stays is an Irish team on the ground, not a booking portal. We look after our own houses across Ireland — Howard's Way on the Clare coast, Rathescar Grove in the Boyne Valley, and more — and we'll connect them into one bespoke itinerary for your family: a week by Adare, then a week on the west coast, with the drives, the tee times and the family days already mapped out.

  • A base — or a route across several of our houses — matched to your group size
  • Match-day logistics: park-and-ride or train planning from wherever you're staying
  • Tee times at Lahinch, Trump Doonbeg and the west-of-Ireland links
  • Family days out: Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, the Burren, castles, Galway
  • One point of contact for the whole trip

Tell us your dates, group size and what the family wants to do — we'll come back with a plan. Enquire about a bespoke trip. Or plan a bespoke Ireland trip with sample itineraries and everything we arrange.

The geography

The golf is in Limerick. The house is on the Atlantic.

Adare Manor is inland on the River Maigue in Co. Limerick, and the village itself won't take the overflow during Ryder Cup week. Howard's Way is a world away from that — a house of your own on the Atlantic coast in Co. Clare, with the Cliffs of Moher five minutes down the road and Lahinch's links ten minutes the other way. You get the drive to the course each day, and a proper stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way to enjoy around it.

Choosing a base

How far is Clare from Adare, compared with other bases?

Rooms near Adare are limited, so plenty of groups will end up an hour or more away. Here's how a Clare base compares.

~19 km

Limerick city

The nearest city, and the obvious first choice for most groups.

~85 km

Clare coast (Liscannor)

Howard's Way. About an hour and 15 minutes on a normal day, with the Atlantic, Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher at the other end.

~90 km

Killarney, Co. Kerry

Around an hour and a half's drive from Adare, according to official tour operator Carr Golf.

Two weeks, one base

A week for the golf, a week for the west of Ireland

Plenty of groups will turn Ryder Cup week into a proper trip: a week at Adare, then a week for the rest of the west. Nothing here is compulsory, and second-week dates depend on availability, so ask us.

Week one
Sun 12 Sept
Arrive and settle in

Stock the kitchen, light the fire and sleep off the journey before the week starts. Shannon Airport is about an hour away.

Mon 13 Sept
A quiet day on the coast

Practice day tickets are for Tuesday to Thursday, so Monday suits the Cliffs of Moher, five minutes from the house, or a walk on Lahinch beach.

Tue 14 and Wed 15
Practice days

A calmer way into the course, if you have tickets. There's still no spectator parking at Adare Manor, so plan to park and ride or take the train.

Thu 16 Sept
Opening Ceremony

The Thursday tickets include the Opening Ceremony. Leave early and check the official transport page for your route.

Fri 17 to Sun 19
Match days

Europe v USA. Out early by park and ride or train, then back to the coast for dinner. Vaughan's Anchor Inn is in Liscannor if nobody wants to cook. Book ahead.

Mon 20 Sept
Week one ends

Staying on for the second week? Tell us in your email and we'll check availability.

Week two
Day 1
Cliffs of Moher and Doolin

Go early or late to miss the coach traffic in the middle of the day. Doolin is about 20 minutes away, with Doolin Cave and the boat trips under the Cliffs.

Day 2
The Aran Islands

Ferries run from Doolin to Inis Oírr and Inis Mór. Check sailing times and book ahead.

Day 3
The Burren

About 35 minutes inland to Poulnabrone Dolmen, a Neolithic tomb older than Stonehenge, and Caherconnell Stone Fort.

Day 4
Your own round of golf

Lahinch Golf Club has 36 holes close by, and Trump International Doonbeg is around 30 minutes away. Book tee times well ahead.

Day 5
Galway

About an hour north by the coast road through Ballyvaughan and the Burren. A scenic drive in its own right.

Day 6
Bunratty Castle and Folk Park

About an hour's drive, with a 15th-century tower house and a folk park. The medieval banquet needs booking ahead.

Day 7
A slow last day

Coffee at Dolly's in Liscannor, a visit to St Brigid's Well, or the Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths, about 20 minutes away.
